Orland River Day is Saturday (9th) You Dressing Like a Pirate?
Got to love Orland River Day, always the second Saturday of September, and always rain or shine.
Not going to let the weather get in the way of a great community day, right?
And here is all you need to know.
Dressing like a Pirate is encouraged, but if that is not your thing, you probably won’t get run out of town.
It takes place on Narramissic Drive. And on the Narramissic River.
And it runs between 8:30 a.m. and is done by 2:30 p.m.
It starts with the Alewives Run, from Craig Pond to the Village.
It promises to be spectacular. You in your kayak or canoe, observing eagles and loons as you glide through the Lilly pads. What a gorgeous start.
Next join the parade. Pirate themed bikes encouraged with prizes to be awarded. The parade lines up in the Orland Community Center Parking Lot at 9 a.m. and starts at 9:30.
Parade route is School House Road to Gray Meadow Road to Route 166 and over the bridge to the Old School House Post Office.
For your information, if you are in the parade with any horses, you must wear a helmet, and provide a clean-up detail. (Sorry, I’m busy at that time)
There also will be a canoe and kayak race, there is music and a street contra dance. Along with vendors and food and games, including pickle ball.
The Pirates of the Narramissic for the annual Orland River Day. Have a good time, matey.
