A siren that went off Tuesday morning in the 10 a.m. hour at the Seabrook Station Nuclear Plant with a message to evacuate the beach was a mistake.

The New Hampshire Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said it was notified by the plant about the activation.

"There is no emergency at the plant and no danger to the public,' Homeland Security said in a statement.

Seabrook, Hampton, and Rye Police also confirmed on their respective social media platforms there was no emergency at the plant.

Gov. Chris Sununu issued the same announcement on his Twitter account.

The message included instructions to evacuate the beach, a step that is not necessary.

"Attention. Attention. There is a problem at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Station. The beaches are closed. Please leave the beach area at once and turn on your radio for more information," the message said.

Seabrook Station does periodic tests of its sirens, which are announced ahead of time.
