An early morning fire in Orland sent a woman to the hospital.

A resident of Verona Island called 911 at around 1:00 this morning, saying they could see flames at a house across the river in Orland. A Sheriff's Deputy was the first to arrive and found a woman on the lawn of the Gross Point Road residence. The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

A spokesperson for the Orland Fire Department told WABI-TV that the fire was challenging to fight because it was down a single lane road, with room for only one truck at a time to travel. Crews from Orland, as well as Penobscot and Bucksport worked to get the fire under control.

The State Fire Marshal's office will now work to try and determine what sparked the blaze.
