After all, this year we are going through another drought in Maine. It's the third consecutive summer where we are experiencing drought conditions.

Nick Stasulis is a Maine Field Office Chief for the New England Science Center, and co-chair for the Maine Drought Task Force and he told Fox22 TV
What we’re seeing this year is kind of an extension of dry conditions. Below normal snowpack for a few years and some below normal precipitation this year.
And about any recent rain
Thunderstorms that are passing through that are dropping a lot of rain in a short amount of time and with how dry the ground is in most of Maine right now that it’s hard packed that the water from that intense rain can’t infiltrate down into the soil. We’re not getting a lot of benefit
Half of Maine is on well water. And it is not just drinking water, but of course, bathing, cooking, and cleaning. So a dry well is not as simple as going to get a jug of drinking water.
