Please don't fire up the charcoal briquettes because today is not the day for a cook-out.

The National Weather Service only issues a Red Flag Warning about every other year, and due to "critical fire weather conditions", they've issued one for today.

The affected areas include: Northwest Aroostook, Northeast Aroostook, Northern Somerset, Northern Piscataquis, Northern Penobscot, Southeast Aroostook, Central Piscataquis, Central Penobscot, Southern Piscataquis and Northern Washington.

The Red Flag Warning is in effect today, Thursday, May 21st, and here are the weather conditions in the areas listed above, provided by the Maine Forest Service:

WINDS...West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent.

TEMPERATURES...In the lower 80s.

The National Weather Service in Caribou last issued a Red Flag Warning in May of 2018, and before that one was issued in May of 2016.

Please be extra careful out there today and protect the Maine woods and the creatures that live within them that we love so much!
