Christopher Knight, better known as the North Pond Hermit, could get out of jail on October 28th, after spending six months behind bars. Knight will be in court on that day while a judge decides whether to admit him to a special program.

The Co-Occuring Disorders Court is a program that allows for substance abuse and mental health counseling for certain people who plead guilty to their crimes. The man who told police he spent 27 years living in seclusion in the Maine Woods has admitted that alcohol was a part of his life. Officials at the Pine Tree Camp in Rome said Knight would often steal beer, being selective about which brands he would take.

Knight has admitted to committing an estimated 1,000 burglaries to area camps in order to survive. Most people in the Co-Occuring Disorders court spend a year or two in the program, while living and working in the community.
