Police say a 90-year-old man is dead after his car went off the road in Pittsfield Monday afternoon.

According to the Morning Sentinel, the man was driving his Cadillac on Route 2, near Higgins Road at around 3:30 Monday afternoon. Witnesses to the crash said the vehicle veered into the westbound lane, went into a ditch and hit a tree. The man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The State Medical Examiner's Office will work to determine cause of death, while Pittsfield Police continue to investigate the crash in coordination with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office. Pittsfield Fire and Sebasticook Valley Hospital rescue personnel assisted at the scene.
