A New York man has pleaded not guilty to murder charges in connection with the shooting deaths of two Augusta residents on Christmas morning.

David Marble Jr., 29, of Rochester, New York, also pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person at his arraignment at the Capital Judicial Center on Tuesday, the Portland Press Herald reports.

Marble is accused of shooting and killing Eric Williams, 35, and Bonnie Royer, 26, as they sat in Williams’ sport utility vehicle on Sanford Road in Manchester.

Police have said the Dec. 2015 killings were drug-related.

Marble has been held without bail since he was arrested four days after Williams and Royer were found dead.

The judge said Marble's trial will likely take place in 2017.

Marble has convictions in Rochester, New York, for forcible robbery and faces a long list of charges stemming from a July 2015 traffic accident in Rochester, in which Marble is accused of hitting a 50-year-old pedestrian.
