Bangor firefighters spent Thursday morning dealing with an apartment house fire on Charles Street.

Neighbors were awakened by sirens at approximately 1:00 in the morning, as crews from Bangor, Brewer, MeANG, and Holden responded to the fire. Northern Light EMS was also on the scene. The Bangor Fire Department say about six tenants were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. Three cats rescued from the building were transported to a local emergency vet, where they're said to be in stable condition.

There are no reports of any injuries.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will now investigate the cause of the fire that witnesses say started in the back, by the garage, and spread to the top of the structure.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
