When the zombie apocalypse occurs, and it will, it appears Mainers may actually have a shot at surviving, at least for a little while.

The Washington Post recently posted a story on its website about the best U.S. counties to live in when everyone starts coming back from the dead, and three Maine counties are ideal for surviving the zombie outbreak, apparently.

The author, Christopher Ingraham, says you should live in a place that has the following characteristics:

  • Low population density
  • Access to guns
  • People with military experience
  • Terrain that's difficult for zombies to traverse
  • Access to bodies of water

Overall, Maine did very well. Throughout the state, your chances of survival are considered average to very high.

Washington, Piscataquis and Knox Counties are considered the areas that give you the best chance to avoid being bit.
