A non-profit in Old Town, Maine is helping people rebuild their lives after devastating fires, homelessness, and other situations.

Finding a New Home After Experiencing Homelessness is Only Part of the Solution

Just the other day, I read on social media about a family that was transitioning from homelessness into a permanent home. The person who wrote the post asked community members if they had any extra furniture or housewares to help this family settle into their new digs. I suggested they contact Welcome to Housing.

While it's wonderful when someone who is unhoused gets a place to live, or a family who lost their home to fire or escaped a domestic violence situation gains a new residence, there's still so much more that they need.

Beds, chairs, and even a can opener will help these folks be successful in their transition. Without these items, they're just living in an empty shell without any necessary items to make it a successful residence. With help from Welcome to Housing, that empty shell becomes a comfortable and functioning home.

Welcome to Housing was founded in October 2011 by my friend, Chris Olsen, and it has grown from a small grassroots organization that solicited donations from volunteer tables in front of stores to one that collects large-scale items from places like remodeling hotels.

Welcome to Housing is Always Accepting Donations And Always There to Help

Welcome to Housing even helped my family, when my son and his wife were burned out of their apartment. I visited their home recently and learned that the chair I was sitting in came from Chris's organization.

Welcome to Housing is always hopeful for financial donations to help with operating costs. Find more information about the organization and how to donate on the website for Welcome to Housing.
