A 1-year-old pit bull named Birdy has brought love and joy to a local announcer and her husband.
Maine Radio Announcer Adopts a Shelter Pet from the Bangor Humane Society
Yes, I am the announcer whose heart was won by the cutest little girl ever.
The story of how Birdy and I met is actually quite remarkable. Call it fate or kismet, this sweet soul was destined to become part of our family.

My husband, Jim, and I have never adopted a pet from a shelter, but I still couldn't resist checking out the dogs on the Bangor Humane Society's website. That's when I saw this beautiful red pit bull, whose eyes melted my heart.
Her name was Birdy.
Maine Radio Announcer's Meeting With Bangor Humane Society Dog was Kismet
As fate would have it, a representative from BHS brought Birdy to the Townsquare Media stations later that week, so we could encourage people to adopt her or one of the other pets in the shelter.
From the moment I met her, I knew. She had to come live with us because she was too sweet and gentle to stay in a shelter.
This is the picture I would have posted on the Q-106.5 Facebook page if it had been any other dog, encouraging people to adopt.
But I couldn't do it.
Bangor, Maine Humane Society Dog's Day Out Allows for Time Outside the Shelter
That weekend, Jim and I went to the shelter and took Birdy home for a Dog's Day Out. She loved riding in the truck and the bits of our Wendy's burgers even more.
When she walked inside our house, she was instantly at home, even taking a long nap in our former dog's (now her) bed.
Thanks to the kind folks at the Bangor Humane Society, the process was easier than we expected.
Jim and I couldn't be happier. She's already a fun and adventurous addition to our family.
Welcome home, Birdy.
UPDATE: After five days with this amazingly sweet and loving girl, Jim and I decided to return her to the Bangor Humane Society. She did nothing wrong. In fact, she's a wonderful dog. But she just wasn't a good fit for our family.
We know that she's going to find her perfect situation, in a place where she can run out her zoomies to her heart's content. (and this girl can ZOOMIE!)
Thanks to the kind folks at the Bangor Humane Society for their understanding and grace as we made this very difficult decision.
