This Maine Restaurant Is One of the Most Remote on Earth
Not only is this restaurant in Maine stunningly beautiful, but it’s also just as—if not more—exclusive and difficult to access.
Listen, Maine is full of amazing hidden gem restaurants—but the one we're talking about today isn’t just a hidden gem in the figurative sense. It’s tucked so far off the beaten path, it’s a literal hidden treasure in our Pine Tree State.
So, with that in mind, how do we determine what the most remote restaurants in the world are, and who’s putting these lists together?
LoveFood’s latest report, ‘The World’s Most Remote Restaurants,’ highlights dining destinations so isolated they often require a hike, boat, or even a seaplane to reach. The rankings are based on how difficult each restaurant is to access, along with insights from LoveFood’s experienced team of travel and food writers, making it a uniquely subjective yet well-informed list.

Alright, now that we’ve covered that, which restaurant in Maine has recently been named one of the world’s most remote?
According to LoveFood and their recent report highlighting ‘The World’s Most Remote Restaurants,’ making the list is The Lost Kitchen in Freedom. Located at 22 Mill St. in Freedom, LoveFood had the following to say about their selection:
It’s not just the location of The Lost Kitchen that makes it hard to get to, tucked in a renovated 19th-century grist mill reached via a bridge spanning a babbling brook. It’s also the way tables are allocated, via a postcard lottery.
LoveFood continues, explaining that hopeful diners send in requests by mail and cross their fingers for a chance to be selected.
Those lucky enough to score a spot get to enjoy a seasonal tasting menu made from local ingredients, served inside chef Erin French’s stunning, wood-accented home by her all-female team.

And there you have it! One of the most remote restaurants in the world can be found right here in our Pine Tree State—The Lost Kitchen in Freedom.
