An investigation into the theft of a camper and two sheds led Maine State Police Saturday to a home on Skinner Point Road in Searsport. When they approached the residence, police saw the $18,000 Hampton Crossroads camper, clearly visible, parked behind the residence. It was identified as the same camper stolen in 2024.

Police Say the Man Allegedly Used His Employer's Equipment to Move the Sheds

When questioned, State Police say Thomas said he worked at Skinner's Pit and allegedly admitted to using his employer's heavy equipment to move the two sheds during a previous snowstorm. The owners of Skinner's Pit are not implicated in this investigation.

He also allegedly said he moved the camper behind his home several months earlier after seeing someone on the property and paying them $1,600. When the person he implicated was questioned, they reportedly told police they had never met Craig Thomas.

A Stolen Black Bear Mount Has Not Been Found

Maine State Police say the camper contained a mounted black bear when it was stolen. Anyone with information about the stolen mounted black bear should contact Corporal Quintero at 207-624-7076.
