Apple Hill Stables Hosts State Barrel Horse Racing Championship
Take away Number One. People that have a passion that involves horses are very down to earth nice people. At least every single one of them that was at Apple Hill Stables on Saturday for the National Barrel Horse Association Maine State championship certainly was as kind as people get.
The 26th NBHA event took place and riders secure points to other National events.
And if you haven’t been to Apple Hill Stables in Levant, go. It is an amazing facility, and owners Larry and Robin Frost are just as amazing.
Confession. I know nothing about horses or horse riding, but everyone and everything on Saturday led to a very enjoyable experience and day.
Over 100 came to ride, to compete, to participate in their passion. They come from all over Maine. They stay overnight camping and get up to ride.
And they are all ages from young teens to senior citizens past retirement age. And they are all just as passionate.
Out of the more than 100 riders, more than half of them win prize money. In the event this weekend there was over $30,000 in prize money. Plus, the coveted belt buckles like Kyle won a couple years ago.
And here's Betty, she's got a belt buckle too and although she doesn't look it, she's a senior citizen.
The event begins with all standing for the playing of the National Anthem.
But before that, they drag. To make sure the conditions are just right for the event. And they drag after every 5 riders to make it as even as possible for each participant.
The community comes together to assist Apple Hill Stables.
You should know about an upcoming event too at the 41,000 square foot facility. The PRCA sanctioned rodeo on September 8th 9th and 10th.You
This is their biggest event of the year bringing you the best in rodeo competition. Bull Riding, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and more. Including the Anah Shriner Clowns. All proceeds from the rodeo benefit Anah Shriners Hospitals.
