Thinking about your cemetery plot always seems a tad grisly.
This subject comes up with my wife and me sometimes. As we get a little older every day, sometimes we wonder where we're going to end up when our time comes. We don't have any kids, so there won't be anyone around to take care of any of it, so we probably should put some better effort into the process.
It's funny, even places to rest after you die are over-the-top expensive in southern Maine. It's totally cheaper to be dead in Portland than to live in Portland.
I remember my grandfather not only had his plot picked out years before he passed, he even paid for his funeral ahead of time and wrote his own eulogy! His level of preparedness is not the world I live in. But someday I won't be living in this world at all, so some planning is definitely in order.
How do you even begin the process?
A quick Google search shows that a lot of towns offer services through their websites, as well as funeral homes that help broker those options as well. It all seems pretty boilerplate as far as it all goes. You buy a tiny piece of land, and someday you live in it until time immemorial.
What really surprised me though, was that there are burial plots for sale in Maine right now... on eBay. Yup. Right there on eBay. It made me actually LOL. Mostly because it had all the regular eBay buying options. You could bid, you could make an offer... Even better, both listings offered "local pickup".
If you're looking around for a plot in either Portland or over in Auburn, eBay has you covered. It's funny, even places to rest after you die are over-the-top expensive in southern Maine. It's totally cheaper to be dead in Portland than to live in Portland. You laugh... But it's true.
