Traffic on I-95 in Bangor is about to get a little more complicated as the Maine DOT begins another overpass replacement project.

Maine's Spring and Summer Season Brings Road Construction

The good news is that Bangor is getting new overpasses, which is something the area has really needed.

The day-to-day reality is that it will change the traffic pattern again, even as the Broadway traffic flow has started to straighten out.

The first project is taking place in the Stillwater Avenue area.

Maine Department of Transportation Will be Replacing the Stillwater Avenue Overpass

The Maine Department of Transportation will begin clearing and preparing the median between I-95's north and southbound lanes on April 6, 2026.

The two Stillwater Avenue overpasses on I-95 are being replaced by a single-span bridge.

Officials say a median crossover using the new northbound alignment will be set up to maintain through traffic during construction.

Just like with the Broadway bridge project, some traffic delays will be necessary as the bridge supports are installed, but no extended detours will be needed.

However, there will be periodic short-term closures of Stillwater Avenue and Exit 186 ramps, which will require detours.

People will still be able to access businesses in the area and the pedestrian path.

Replacement of the Kenduskeag Avenue Bridge on I-95 in Bangor, Maine, Starts in 2027

The other project the Maine DOT has on the books won't begin until 2027, when the Kenduskeag Avenue Bridge will be replaced with a shorter, higher clearance bridge span.

Officials say the bridge will be fully closed once construction starts to shorten the project, and traffic will be detoured for about eight months.
