Sometimes when I look at my dog, Toby, I wish that my life could be as fun and uncomplicated.

First, a Little About Our Boy

Toby has a pretty good life. But before we get into that, let me tell you a little bit about him. Toby is a mix of pitbull and labrador retriever and he's four years old. My husband, Jim, and I got him from a Skowhegan family just before the pandemic. He was a blessing as we weathered the stress of those early days because he was cute, sweet, and always entertaining.

Napping, Fishing....it's a Pretty Great Life

The other day, as I headed off to work to write stories about bad people doing bad things, I looked at my dog all snuggled on the couch, ready to nap the day away while his humans worked. He has a favorite spot on the couch where he feels comfortable and secure. Repeatedly, throughout my day, I thought of Toby dozing on the sofa and I was very jealous.

Jim was going to work later in the morning, so he and Toby decided to head to their fishing spot. I'm sitting at work and Jim's sending me pictures of Toby checking out the fish. Given a choice, I would always rather be fishing than working.

Toys are Great But Toby's Favorite is a Visit From His Friend

When I got home from work, I'd stopped and picked up some groceries...and a Lamb Chop toy for my boy. Before I could get the bags out of the car, Toby found his toy and decided to take it in the house on his own.

He even got a visit from his best friend, Gunner, who lives next door. They love to run.

Finally, it was time to settle in for the night. I'm sure Toby was thinking what a good day it had been as he drifted off to sleep. And I'm so glad he's sharing it with us because we'd be lost without our boy.
