A group of Maine Sheriff's Deputies have released a video that encourages safe driving on Super Bowl Sunday.

Who Recorded the Video?

The York County Sheriff's Office recorded the video, but it really speaks for all Sheriff's departments in the state, who will be keeping our streets safe on Super Bowl Sunday. While offering safety tips, the guys are tossing a football and showing off their skills. I especially loved Deputy Frazier's K9 officer, who you could just tell was hoping he was going to drop the ball.

Super Bowl Sunday is a big day for drinking parties, so the Deputies are encouraging being smart about how you celebrate. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 11,654 traffic deaths nationwide in 2020 that were attributed to drunk driving, so it's important to plan ahead and not become just another statistic.

What's the Message?

If you plan to drink on Super Bowl Sunday, consider partying at home so you don't have to go out on the roads. If you really want to attend a party at someone else's house, however, or at a local bar/restaurant, make sure you have a sober designated driver. That means someone who's not drinking at all, not someone who's drinking less. If you find yourself intoxicated, or even 'buzzed,' and without a way home, call a cab or an Uber. Or call your Mom to come pick you up. (Mom's live for that stuff)

Finally, if you're the one hosting the party, be responsible. Make arrangements for your guests who have had too much to drink. That could mean staying sober yourself so you can run them home, or pulling out the hide-a-bed so they can crash at your house.

Does the Dog Ever Get the Ball?

Be smart. Be safe. Don't drink and drive, on Super Bowl Sunday and every other day. And, Deputy Frazier, do me a favor...let the dog chase the ball, just once.
