It was a festive sight in the parking lot at Maine's most popular truck stop when the lighted Boston holiday tree stopped by.

Boston's Christmas Tree Travels Through Maine Each Year From Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia Government's donation of a holiday tree to the City of Boston, Massachusetts, dates back to December 6, 1917, when two ships collided off the coast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, causing a devastating explosion.

Nearly 2,000 were killed, and hundreds of others were left injured and homeless.

City Officials in Boston learned of the tragedy and immediately sent medical aid and relief supplies to Nova Scotia.

Since then, Nova Scotia's government has vowed to gift a beautiful Christmas tree to the City of Boston every year.

Maine is part of that tradition, since the journey from Nova Scotia to Boston includes a long drive through our state, and this year, it included a stop at Dysart's Truck Stop in Hermon, early Monday morning.

The 45-foot white spruce was donated by Martins Brook residents, Ronnie and Claire Feener, in whose yard it had stood for 40 years.

Harvesting the tree is a big event, including a smudging ceremony, this year provided by Holly Meuse of L'sitkuk First Nation in Bear River, to bless the tree.
