I may have owned a stop sign back in the day...

When I was in high school, there was construction going down on my road. The stop sign for the end of the street lay in the dirt for days, maybe even weeks. It also wasn't attached to anything, so one evening it may have found its way into my house. As an adult, I'd never do that because I have at least an idea that those aren't cheap.

But I took that thing with me everywhere I moved for years. I think when my wife, then-girlfriend, moved in together, she decided we didn't need a stop sign in our house. I think from there it went to my band's practice space. I couldn't even begin to tell you where it is now. Probably in a landfill, hahaha.

But what would you do with some 30 street signs?

That's the issue residents of Lubec are facing. They have a full-on road sign bandit on their hands. Between March 22nd and 23rd, someone stole 30 different road signs, including a couple of stop signs, according to the BDN. Most of what was taken came from the area leading to West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and off North Lubec Road.

The town council has now authorized a $500 reward for info that leads them to the signage bandit. Theories for who may have done it range from bored teens to aluminum thieves. But seriously, what advantage would you have by grabbing 30 of them. Is there some black market for street signs I don't know about?

It's going to take a month or so to get all the signs replaced, and will cost more than $2,000 to replace them all. Hopefully whoever decided to bring this reign of roadside terror into being has gotten it out of their system. Lord knows it's a safety issue. But hey... enjoy that speed limit sign, bub. You're the envy of no one.
