A recent uptick in violent crimes is keeping Lewiston Police Officers busy and the community uneasy.

Lewiston, Maine, is Reeling From a Recent Increase in Violent Crimes

The Lewiston Police Department has been dealing with a large number of shootings in the city, many of which have involved minors and young adults.

Over the past week, several posts on the department's Facebook page have detailed violent crimes in a city that's experienced more than its share.

Here are a few examples.

Torture and Kidnapping, As Well as an Intentional Hit and Run in Lewiston, Maine

On Monday, May 11, 2026, Lewiston Police found a 37-year-old man who had been lured to an apartment, badly beaten and burned, while tied up. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

44-year-old Zachery Paradis and 42-year-old Jennifer Dionne face multiple charges, including elevated aggravated assault, kidnapping, and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

Over the weekend, officers responded to Bartlett Street for a report of a vehicle that hit a bicyclist, something witnesses claim was intentional.

Gage Gagne, 29, had argued with the victim before the incident. He faces multiple charges, including OUI.

Lewiston, Maine, Police Say Shootings Have Increased, and Many Suspects Are Minors

There have been multiple cases, in recent weeks, of shootings in the city.

Police say many of those have involved altercations between groups of people, one of which left a 14-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the leg.

A 13-year-old suspect is now facing a felony charge of elevated aggravated assault.

In a statement on the department's Facebook page, Lewiston Police say they have taken measures to deal with the increase in gun violence, including reallocating some of their personnel and beefing up patrols.
