Anyone interested in seeing the demolition of the big stack at the old Verso Mill can watch from Fort Knox, free of charge.

For many people who spent a portion of their lives working in the old Bucksport Mill, and local residents who got used to seeing that large chimney stack every day, it's the end of an era. On Tuesday, demolition crews will be taking the big stack down, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

For safety reason, spectators will not be allowed to watch from the perimeter of the demolition site. But Bucksport Police say arrangements have been made to allow free admission to Fort Knox for anyone who wants to watch from there. It's a chance to spend a morning at the Fort before the snow flies, and to watch as one of Bucksport's landmarks is taken down.

Whole Oceans is currently repurposing the facility into a land-based salmon farm. The Maine-based company plans to produce about 20,000 tons of Atlantic salmon each year.
