One man is under arrest after a police incident at Pray's Motel in Newport.

Newport Police say 60-year-old Louis Irish is charged with Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon and Criminal Trespass. Police say Irish threatened a housekeeper and the motel's owner with a knife before barricading himself in the room. When police arrived and tried to enter the room, Irish allegedly threatened them with a sword.

At that point, officers fell back and called for backup. After several hours, they received a warrant and forced their way into the room, taking Irish into custody.  No one was injured in the incident that involved several police agencies.

Newport Police were aided by the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office and the Maine State Police.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
