The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a media release that Johnsonville, LLC is recalling over 109 thousand pounds of smoked pork sausage products because they may contain 'extraneous materials.' The Wisconsin company sent out the following description of the recalled product:

  • 14-oz. plastic packages containing 6 pieces of 'Jalapeno Cheddar Smoked Sausage' with Best-by date of 04/04/2018 and Batch ID 1001124486 or 1001124487. In addition, they bear an establishment number 'EST 34224' inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Company officials were shipping to retail locations nationwide, and a complete list of those retailers will be available soon on the USDA website. The issue was discovered when the company received three consumer complaints for pieces of hard, green plastic in the sausage product.

So far, there haven't been any confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the products. However, officials say, anyone who is concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Anyone who's already bought the product is urged not to eat it. Instead, either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. Questions about the recall can be directed, by phone or text, to Johnsonville Consumer Relations at 1-888-556-2728.
