Democrat Joe Perry won Tuesday's special election, and will take over the vacated House seat for District 124.

WABI-TV reports Perry garnered 719 votes, as opposed to 390 votes for Republican Thomas White. The candidates were vying for the House of Representatives seat that was left empty when Governor Janet Mills nominated Aaron Frey for Attorney General.

This isn't Perry's first trip to Augusta. He was in the House of Representatives from 1996 to 2004, and then was a state Senator from 2004 to 2010. According to Ballotpedia, he chaired both the Taxation  and Engrossed Bills Committees,  and served on the Transportation Committee and the Select Committee on Maine's Energy Future.

District 124 consists of much of the east side of Bangor and part of Orono.
