These Five Maine Diners Still Feel Like Stepping Into the ’50s

There's nothing that brings you back in time more than when you walk into one of Maine's roadside diners to get a bite to eat. The 1950s were the diner's heyday, but there are still many great diners from that era in Maine in operation today.

Here's a look at 5 Maine diners that feel like you got into a time machine and went back to the 50s.

Brunswick Diner - 101 Pleasant Street

The Brunswick Diner serves breakfast and lunch daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Just look for the red colored building with the diner sign.

The Brunswick Diner has been in its present location for more than 70 years and calls itself the most authentic old-time diner in the state of Maine.

A1 Diner - 3 Bridge Street, Gardiner

A1 Diner is on the right just before the bridge over the Cobbosseecontee Stream as you head north. This is a diner that was built in the 1940s. They're open Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for brunch.

Miss Portland Diner - 140 Marginal Way

The Miss Portland Diner was originally located on Forest Avenue and was moved in 1964 to 49 Marginal Way. It moved once again in 2008 up the street to its present location at 140 Marginal Way.

Miss Portland is open weekdays, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and weekends, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Dine-in service, outdoor patio seating, and take-out are all available.

Maine Diner - 2265 Post Road, Wells

The Maine Diner on Route 1 in Wells opened in the early 1960s. It has been featured on The Today Show, WBZ’s Phantom Gourmet, and The Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. They also have a gift shop next door.

They're open daily at 7 a.m., and their closing time varies depending on the season.

Palace Diner - 18 Franklin Street, Biddeford

The Palace Diner was built in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1927 by the Pollard company but it has always operated in Biddeford. It is one of only two dining cars made that are still in existence in the entire country.

They're open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
