Who Knew Buying From One Maine Yard Sale Could Help Folks With Cancer In Our State?
The folks at Better Homes and Gardens and The Masiello Group in Bangor have been joining efforts for the past 12 years, to put together a massive yard sale.
Why go through all that work? That's easy; because the money they raise from this yearly yard sale weekend goes to benefit a fantastic cause: Sarah's House Of Maine.
What is Sarah's House of Maine? It's a Cancer Hospitality House, a special place where folks battling cancer can come to rest in between treatments.
"The mission of Sarah’s House is to provide temporary lodging in a comfortable “home away from home” environment to cancer patients (and their caregivers) receiving treatments at Cancer Care...Referred guests are served with integrity and respect and without regard to financial resources."
Funded and run entirely by donations and volunteers, Sarah's House relies on fundraising events like this yard sale to keep them operational.
The event will take place Saturday, August 10th 8 AM to 3 PM and Sunday, August 11th 9 AM to 12 PM, at the Better Homes and Gardens office at 1162 Union Street in Bangor.
Event Coordinator Kasey Levesque says that they are still accepting donations (with exception of clothes, mattresses, old televisions and medical equipment) but would rather they're dropped of closer to the date of the event.
"Our storage unit is getting quite full but we are still accepting items, I do ask that if you have a large amount of items to donate, please wait to drop off on Friday, August 9 as we will be setting up and unloading the storage container."
Levesque says 100% of the proceeds collected from the Yard Sale will go to help Sarah's House.
Levesque says this yard sale has raise over $75,000 over the last decade. Sarah’s House uses the money raised to keep the house running.
If you have any items to donate, you can drop them into the Maine Trailer container located at the Better Homes and Gardens Office on Union Street. Or, if you have questions or would like to arrange a drop-off outside of regular business hours, you can call Levesque at (207) 356-5574 or email her at kasey@greateasttitle.com.
