New Bangor Bake Shop To Open On Hammond Street Later This Month

There's a new bakery getting ready to open in Bangor later this month.

Christina Thomas, who grew up in Glenburn but now lives in Exeter, has been baking since she was a little girl. Most recently, she ran the "Whoopie Wagon Food" truck and specialized in just what the name says, Whoopie Pies. '

"My background is actually it just came naturally for me to bake. I love it I love being in the kitchen cooking and baking and decorating things. Ever since I was a little little girl and I am 44 years old now. My grandmother always was baking and cooking something, and I always wanted to be in the kitchen baking and cooking with her."

Thomas was ready for a change and went looking for a kitchen space to set up her business, the Whoopie Wagon Bakery.

"So I needed to find a kitchen large enough for me to be able to bakeand sell in the same location so we found this location at 624 Hammond Street and decided to give it a go."

The storefront on Hammond Street is where the former "Cake Mama" used to be.

"I am renting, I just started working on the building a little over a week ago...we plan to open around the end of July."

Some of the things Thomas says she will feature are fudge, yeast rolls, cinnamon rolls, pies, cookies, and cocoa bombs. But her specialty will be whoopie pies.

"My biggest seller is actually whoopie pies and I offer over 100 flavors that can be used in cake or frosting and fillings."

Along with her baked goods, Thomas says she wants to support other small businesses and will be featuring items sold by other local vendors.

"I actually want to support other small businesses and most of the people that are going into my shop are friends of mine that have small businesses. I will have vendors to be able to shop from the vendors. We will sell freeze-dried candy, freeze-dried fruit, freeze dry foods of every type.

I have a lady that's going to do specialty Cake pops. I have a gentleman that is going to do cups and travel mugs. I have a lady that's going to do cutting boards, kitchen towels, potholders, and a few other things. I have a young 16-year-old girl that's going to do some of her crafts and put them in my shop. I have another lady that is going to do jams, jellies, and different types of pickles and relish."

Thomas says she hopes to be ready for business by the last week in July. The bakery will be open from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday through Saturday. You can call the shop for more information or to place an order by phoning (207) 973-0078.
