Shipping packages is no fun.

Let's be real though, most people leave everything to the last minute, including shipping out packages. I suppose if one were to put a little more effort in to get them out in a timely fashion, we'd probably all swear a lot less. But especially since the pandemic, there are aspects of sending anything, that's gotten a bit more difficult.

It's hard to say whose fault it is... Is it rich shareholders? Lazy delivery people? The government? That last one may not actually be too far off the mark. The USPS seems to have been plagued the last few years with people trying to either take control of it, or privatize it, or lord knows what else... And now...

Mainers have almost zero faith in the USPS for on-time Christmas packages.

According to a recent survey, folks from all over the country were asked which carriers they thought had the worst chance of making their packages late for Christmas. Overwhelmingly, people responded that they have the least faith in the United States Postal Service.

Over a third of folks who were surveyed, said the Post Office filled them with anxiety when it came to getting their packages to their loved ones on time. Whereas less than 20% of people worried about UPS at all. FedEx was in 2nd place, but was actually pretty far behind the Post Office.

The USPS has had its fair share of issues...

It seems for the last several years, the USPS has been trying to adapt to the new landscape of mail. Letters become fewer and farther between all the time, and most deliveries are dominated by online retailers like Amazon. So more and more, the USPS are becoming package carriers, more than letter carriers.

Hopefully, it'll all settle itself out in time. Change is always hard, especially when you've been doing something basically the same for the last couple hundred years. But if the USPS ever wants to win back more than just the hearts of Mainers, it might be time to re-think the way things are done. Will they?
