Toddler Seriously Injured After Being Run Over By Car In LaGrange Driveway

In what can only be called a parent's worst nightmare, a 3-year-old boy was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when he was run over by a car in LaGrange.

First responders received a 911 call just before 4 PM stating that the child had been hit by a vehicle being driven by a family member in the driveway of a home there.

As dispatchers were sending help, it was relayed that the family was not going to wait for emergency personnel but were rushing the child to the hospital themselves.

Fortunately, an emergency official in the area was able to meet up with the family en route, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, and offer assistance in helping get the boy to the hospital.

"A Fire Investigator with the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office intercepted the car and placed the child and a parent in his cruiser and began transporting him to emergency personnel. Members of PCSO coordinated Ambulances staged at various locations to get the child the quickest medical care possible. The fire investigator was able to get the child to a PCSO Supervisor and awaiting Orono Fire Department Ambulance at one of those staging areas in Orono. Orono Fire Department transported the child to [Northern Light] EMMC, where he is being treated for serious injuries."

Meanwhile, sheriff's deputies from the Crash Reconstruction Team, the Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Division went back to the scene of the incident to try to piece together the events that led to the child getting hit by the car.

Authorities say they will not release any other details pertaining to this case, but encouraged Mainers to use caution on the roadways now that school is in session. They recommend paying special attention to roadways and driveways before and after school. They also encourage parents to talk with their kids about the dangers of playing behind and around vehicles, and to watch out for and avoid those that are moving.
