Authorities continue to investigate a deadly crash that took place on Route 1 in Hancock Friday Night.

The Maine Department of Public Safety says emergency crews were dispatched to that area about a quarter-to-ten Friday evening, after someone reported that a motorcycle and an SUV had collided. Maine State Police arrived on scene and found that one person had perished as a result.

"The operator of the motorcycle, 29-year-old Richard Ryan of Hancock, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the SUV was not injured. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. "

Authorities hope that someone was in that area around the time of the crash, and perhaps saw the events unfold. They're asking for the public's help in putting the pieces of the puzzle together. If anyone witnessed what took place on Route 1 in Hancock Friday night, just before 10 PM, the Maine State Police are asking them to reach out to the Bangor Regional Communications Center and ask for Trooper Bagley. So far this year, the Maine DOT says there have been roughly 20 motorcycle fatalities in the Pine Tree State.  This month alone, there have already been two deaths.

Last year, in total, 25 people died in motorcycle accidents along Maine roadways.

Earlier that day, there was another accident along Route 1 in Hancock, near Peaslee Road. This one involved multiple accidents and impacted traffic for a while.
