Ellsworth Woman Dies, Three Others Injured During Rollover Crash In Gouldsboro

An Ellsworth woman is dead, and three other individuals are injured following a rollover crash in Gouldsboro Sunday evening.

Authorities say the crash involved three separate vehicles, one of which had rolled over, causing the folks inside to become trapped. It occurred just before 7 PM Sunday, at the intersection of Route 1 and Old Route.

According to the Maine State Police, the incident began when 46-year-old Courtney Washington drove her 2024 Subaru Crosstrek through a stop sign. Washington, who is from Bangor, was heading north on Old Route 1 when her car hit the first vehicle and caused a domino effect of sorts.

"Her vehicle struck a 2025 Green Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by 39-year-old Heather Allen of Ellsworth, who was traveling eastbound on Route 1. The impact caused Allen’s vehicle to spin into the westbound lane of Route 1, where it was struck by a red 2014 Subaru Legacy which was traveling westbound on Route 1. The impact caused Allen’s vehicle to roll over. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash."

Washington, along with a passenger riding along in Allen's vehicle, and the driver of the Subaru Legacy all sustained some injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. None of the other injuries were considered life-threatening.

State Police say Route 1 had to be closed for hours so emergency crews could tend to the injured and clear the debris from the roadway.
