Man And Dog Die In Head-On Collision Along Route 69 In Newburgh, Maine Wednesday
Authorities say a crash that caused the closure of part of Route 69 in Newburgh early Wednesday afternoon resulted in the death of one man and a dog.
The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office says the incident took place just before noon on Wednesday, when a sports car and a tractor-trailer collided on Route 69, in the area where it intersects with Route 202, causing authorities to shut down a portion of that road for hours.
"When deputies arrived on scene, they found a 2014 Porsche sedan struck by a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer truck struck head-on. Preliminary reports indicate that the Porsche was traveling west when it crossed the centerline on a curve in the road. Shortly thereafter, it collided head-on with the tractor-trailer, which was loaded with junk metal. The tractor-trailer left the roadway, striking and residential garage."
The Sheriff's department says that the man driving the sports car died at the scene, while the truck driver was uninjured.

There was a dog at the scene that was riding in the sports car at the time of the crash. Emergency crews did their best to get it to a nearby veterinarian's office, but the animal passed away before they could make it.
EMS members from both the Newburgh and Carmel Fire Departments worked alongside the Penobscot Sheriff's Deputies and members of the Maine State Police to clear the area and tend to those involved in the crash.
The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit was on hand to help with the inspection of the tractor-trailer.
Authorities have not yet released the names of those who were involved in Wednesday's crash, as the investigation is still ongoing.
