More Maine Ramp Closures Planned For Bangor’s Broadway Bridge Construction Project Next Weekend
The Maine DOT plans to close the northbound Broadway exit from the interstate for the entire first weekend in October.
This multi-year construction project to replace the Broadway bridge began in 2023 and has made travel in that area tricky, to say the least. There's a reduction in speed on the interstate in the work zone surrounding the project, which seems to take some folks by surprise. And there have been multiple accidents in the area since work began.

The Maine Department of Transportation says the work and closures are necessary to make much-needed improvements to the area.
"The Multimodal project component will enhance intersections at Broadway and Alden Street, realign southbound on and off ramps, and improve intersections at Broadway, Earl Avenue, and Central Street. Please note that there will be times during construction when detours of Broadway and I-95 will be necessary, especially during bridge demolition and the setting of new bridge beams. The contractor has commenced widening the southbound off-ramp. Excavation and gravel operations are underway in this area."
While a majority of lane closures or ramp closures have taken place during the overnight hours, this one will be a little different.
According to the City of Bangor's Facebook page, the ramp closure will happen next weekend, from Friday through Monday.
"The Maine Department of Transportation will be closing the northbound I-95 Exit 185 off ramp to Broadway from Friday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 6, at 5 a.m.
A detour will be in place for the duration of the weekend closure, directing traffic to Exit 186 at Stillwater Avenue. Drivers should follow detour signs directing vehicles down Stillwater Avenue to Broadway."
Officials say that there would be message boards put into place so that folks will know where to go.
The project is slated to wrap up in 2026.
