Popular Bar in Brewer, Maine Closing for Good This Sunday
If you’ve ever called this place your go-to, now’s the time for one final stop.
After briefly reopening in March, Mad Kat & Company at 393 North Main Street in Brewer is once again closing its doors, this time for good.
The bar, which held a grand reopening party on March 4, 2025, struggled to regain steady business and has since been put back on the market. Now, ownership has confirmed it will shut down permanently this Sunday, June 8, due to financial challenges and an inability to generate enough sales to stay open.
Despite the closure, there is still time for one last visit. The bar will remain open through the week, offering guests a final chance to stop in for karaoke and a final round of good times before last call.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, nightlife across the Greater Bangor area has shifted significantly. Fewer people are going out, late-night crowds have thinned, and many venues are no longer staying open as late as they once did. The region has also seen a decline in live music venues, along with a noticeable gap in clubs catering to younger crowds looking for current dance music on weekend nights.
The location has seen several changes over the years. Most recently operating as Mad Kat & Company for just over four years, the business became known for its nightly karaoke and food offerings. However, ownership previously announced plans to sell the establishment in December 2024.
Before that, the space was home to Jester’s, a longtime fixture in Brewer’s nightlife scene. In September 2020, Steve and Markwith took over the business, rebranding it as Mad Kat & Company and continuing the karaoke-focused format.
