Woman, Allegedly Drunk, Caught Going 100+ Miles Per Hour Through Fairfield, Maine

A central Maine woman is in some hot water following a wild incident that unfolded in Fairfield, Maine, late on Tuesday night.

According to an article in the Kennebec Journal, an officer with the Fairfield Police Department says he clocked a vehicle coming down Norridgewock Road just after 11 p.m. at more than 100 miles per hour.

The posted legal speed limit for that section of road is 55 miles per hour, the newspaper stated.

Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and requested the 35-year-old driver, Kristen Gullifer, to do a field sobriety exercise, according to the Kennebec Journal. Reports indicated that the woman complied and that initial findings discovered that her blood alcohol content was more than two times the legal limit, the newspaper stated.

For reference, the legal limit in Maine is 0.08% BAC.

According to the United States Department of Transportation, when the BAC is at 0.08, "muscle coordination becomes poor (e.g., balance, speech, vision, reaction time, and hearing), [it's] harder to detect danger; [and] judgment, self-control, reasoning, and memory are impaired."

Gullifer was arrested and taken to Somerset County Jail, according to the Kennebec Journal. She was charged with operating under the influence and criminal speeding.

If convicted on both charges, the combined penalties could be $3,000 in fines and up to 18 months behind bars, the newspaper stated.

The Kennebec Journal reported that Gullifer's bail was set at $500, and at last check, she had still not posted bail.

Maine officials remind all drivers not to drink and drive.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
