The Old Town Rotary Hunter's Breakfast is Saturday and, this year, there are more choices on the menu.

The 71st Year of the Breakfast Will Look a Little Different

The breakfast is usually served in a tent set up next to Riverfront Park. But the pandemic changed that last year when organizers decided to make it a drive-thru affair. The menu was modified to make the food easier to manage in the car, with delicious breakfast sandwiches instead of a full meal. And, although we all missed that heated tent next to the water, it was a successful event.

Once again this year, the breakfast will be served in a drive-thru format at the Elks Lodge, 290 Fourth Street in Old Town from 6  a.m. to 9 a.m. Organizers feel this is the safer option, with the Delta virus still spreading around the state.

What's for breakfast?

Those tasty egg-ham-cheese-English muffin sandwiches will still be a menu option but diners will also have a choice of a traditional hunter's breakfast meal, including scrambled eggs, ham, and a pancake. Whichever meal you choose, it will be accompanied by home fries, beans, and a donut, along with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Sandwich or eggs, it's only going to cost $5 per person. That's a great deal.

It's the second year that I won't be spending my morning on Resident Deer Hunting Day, standing around the park in the cold, talking about the breakfast on the air. I've had some fun at those events, including standing around a fire barrel with the future Governor Janet Mills. While I won't miss the cold toes, I will miss the tent and listening to others tell their hunting stories.

Oh. Make no mistake. I will be stopping by for breakfast. All that delicious food for $5 and the money all benefits the Rotary? Warm up the car because I'm going to Old Town.
