A Corinna woman is dead following a head-on crash in Pittsfield Saturday night, according to police.

Police say a Jeep Wrangler, driven by 67-year-old Joseph Ortolano Sr., was traveling east bound on Route 2 and  lost control on black ice. The Jeep struck a Chevy Tahoe in a head on collision.

The crash took place between the Beans Corner Rd and the Higgins Rd. Road conditions at the time were icy and are believed to have been a factor.

Ortolano was transported to Sabasticook Valley Medical Center in Pittsfield with multiple injuries, according to police.

Ortolano's wife, 67-year-old Camille Ortolano, died at the scene.

All seven occupants in the Tahoe: the driver, Michael Pease, 43, of Industry, his wife Heather Willis,41, and their five children were taken to Sabasticook Valley Medical Center with non life threatening injuries. The ages of the children were between from 8 to 17.
