A student at Mount View High School in Thorndike was killed in a crash on his way to school Wednesday morning.

Riley Boulay, 16, of Liberty crashed his 2001 Volkswagen Beetle on North Mountain Valley Highway, near the intersections of Randlett and Morse Roads.

The wreck was reported at about 8 a.m. to the Waldo County Regional Communications Center.

Despite immediate life saving measures taken by witnesses, passersby and first responders, Boulay succumbed to his injuries at the scene, The Waldo County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Boulay lost control of his vehicle before it left the roadway and struck multiple trees. Police said speed appears to have been primary factor in the crash.

Boulay was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Crisis teams have been assembled to help students, families and other community members cope with the tragedy.
