Hampden Crash Claims 2 Lives as Vehicle Falls from a Bridge
A multi-vehicle crash in Hampden on Thursday night sent a vehicle into the Soudabscook Stream, killing two people.
Hampden Public Safety Director Chris Bailey says the crash happened just before 10:00 Thursday night, near the intersection of Main Road North and Coldbrook Road. Killed as a result of the crash were 22-year-old Christian Broberg of Winterport and 23-year-old Tyler Wheaton of Hampden.
Officials report the incident started when a Kia, driven by 37-year-old Laura Brissette of Hampden, was turning left onto Main Road North from Coldbrook Road. As she made the turn, a Subaru, traveling south, lost control on the crest of the hill and struck the Kia. The Subaru careened through a guardrail and fell into the Soudabscook Stream. Water levels are high enough that the vehicle was submerged, where it remained for several hours before being found.
Officers eventually located the vehicle and the two men, whose bodies were located several hundred yards away.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash is ongoing. Hampden Police were assisted at the scene by Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Maine Marine Patrol, and the Bangor Fire Department.
There's no word, at this point, whether anyone was injured or the details of how the crash happened.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
