Freight Train, Tractor-Trailer Collide In Danforth
A freight train and log truck collided Wednesday night on Route 1 in Danforth.
The truck, loaded with logs, struck the middle of the train and burst into flames, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a Thursday press release.
The operator of the NB Southern Railway train, Zachary Sanders, 33, of Corinth, was not hurt in the accident, which was reported about 7:20 p.m.
Marshall Campbell, 64, of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, Canada was operating the truck and “was able to make it out of the truck and appeared not to be injured as a result of the crash,” the sheriff's office said in the release.
Police said emergency lights at the railroad crossing were working at the time of the accident, and they're not sure why Marshall didn’t stop.
The incident remains under investigation by police and officials with the Federal Railroad Administration.
