Fiery Crash at Falmouth Toll Booth Caused by Alleged Drunk Driver
An attendant at the Falmouth toll plaza was injured when a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the structure.
It was just after 1:30 Thursday morning when police say 22-year-old Ethan Chase of Durham lost control of his car while traveling east on the Falmouth Spur. The car crashed into the toll booth, causing it to burst into flames. The fire heavily damaged a portion of the toll booth. Shattered glass and debris from the crash struck the toll booth's attendant, 46-year-old John Schwabe of Westbrook. He was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with lacerations to his head and face. Officials say he's expected to be released today. Chase was not hurt in the incident.
Maine State Police report their initial investigation showed speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. Ethan Chase has been charged with aggravated Operating Under the Influence.
This crash remains under investigation.
