The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is investigating a logging accident in Charleston that killed a man.

Officials say the man was working on School Road in Charleston when the accident happened. Officials say it was just before 4:00 when they received word of the incident. A man was operating a tractor, loading logs onto a dump trailer, when one of the logs broke free. It struck the cab of the tractor and the operator. He died from injuries sustained in the accident. No one else was hurt.

This incident occurred on private property and was not a commercial logging operation. Deputies continue to investigate the incident.

The man's name has not been released.
