One person has died in a Sunday evening house fire in Calais.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says it was approximately 9:30 Sunday night when the State Fire Marshal's Office responded to a house fire in Calais. They say one person died in that fire and is believed to be the homeowner, 61-year-old Ellen Gibson. She lived alone at the residence. The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday to confirm her identity and determine her cause of death.

Investigators from the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office are working to determine what started the fire.
