The Thomas Hill Standpipe will be open for a great leaf peepping opportunity this week.

The Thomas Hill Standpipe will open for the annual Fall Foliage Tour. The tour is Wednesday, October 9, from 3-6PM. The event is free of charge. It should be noted the standpipe is not handicap accessible, with 100 stairs leading to the promenade deck.

Bangor Water District crews have been working on rehabbing the Standpipe promenade deck since late September. Workers have installed what they describe as a "walking pad" surface to the deck.

The standpipe was built in 1897 and is designated as a National Historic Landmark by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission.
