Thanks to the creativity and hard work of federal credit union employees in Maine several area nonprofit food pantries and shelters get big checks to help them re-stock.

14 nonprofits serving Penobscot County received checks today, each totaling over 1-thousand dollars.

It’s all part a of year- long fundraising campaign conducted by Maine Credit Unions. Co-Chair of Bangor Federal Credit Union’s Ending Hunger Committee Mary Ann Beatham says they found fun and creative ways to raise money to help support those in need in Maine.

Collectively, Maine Credit Unions raised over 500-thousand in 2013 with the Bangor Federal credit union coming in 4th in the state by raising over 22-thousand.

The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, Manna Ministries and the Good Shepherd Food Bank are just a few of those receiving checks today.
