An elderly Maine man was crossing to his mailbox when he was fatally hit by a vehicle.

Durham, Maine, Man Was Killed When He Was Struck by a Vehicle

The Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as Peter Lowe, 85, of Durham.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Royalsborough Road and Smith Farm Road in Durham at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, for a report of a vehicle vs pedestrian crash.

Elderly Maine Man Hit and Killed While Crossing the Road to Check His Mail

An investigation of the circumstances determined that Mr. Lowe had been crossing the road to check his mailbox when he was hit by a black Ford Escape, driven by Sara Bolduc, 49, of Freeport.

She was traveling south on Royalsborough Road at the time of the crash, in an area where officials say there is no street lighting.

Mr. Lowe, who was wearing dark clothing, died at the scene.

Officials have not commented on whether charges will be filed, but they have stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
