Driver Arrested For OUI After Nearly Hitting York Police Officer

Police have released dashcam footage of a driver nearly hitting a police officer in York durring a traffic stop.

Police are stressing the importance of moving over for stopped emergency vehicles, after a York police officer narrowly avoided being struck by a passing vehicle. According to the York Police Department, the accident took place durring a recent traffic stop for an illegally attached plate. While a tow truck was preparing to tow a vehicle from the side of the road, a driver failed to move over, nearly hitting an officer.

The officer then sprints to his cruiser to chase down the vehicle. Police say, "The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested for OUI and cited for improper passing an emergency vehicle using lights $326."

Maine's Move Over law requires drivers to move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles. The law carries a minimum fine of $275.
