One of Winterport’s Most Dangerous Intersections has Big Changes On the Way
Most of Winterport is a joy to drive in.
There are so many cool roads in Winterport once you get out of the center of town. When you hit the back roads, it's awesome. There are rolling hills, scenic vistas, and cool roads that are simply fun to drive on, if you enjoy back road driving. Personally, I love it. the back road-ier, the better.
A friend sent me photos of the DOT signs that have been put up in the area, so it's definitely happening.
But of all the spots in Winterport, there's one that just downright dangerous. that residents have been begging for anyone to listen to them about. It's wildly prone to accidents and always needs a bit more attention when going through. It's the intersection where Monroe Road and Route 69 meet.
There have been accidents galore.
I have many friends who live in Winterport, and a few right in the general vicinity of this particular intersection, who've all shared stories of accidents they've been in or at least witnessed. And folks have been begging the town and the DOT for years to have something done about it, and it's finally happening!
As of November 2nd, that intersection will now be a 4-way stop. The trouble now, is that traffic only stops coming from either side of the Monroe Road, while Route 69 keeps going. The problem is that it's a fairly blind corner, so someone trying to make a turn off Monroe potentially puts themselves in harm's way.
The 4-way stop will be a total game changer. A friend sent me photos of the DOT signs that have been put up in the area, so it's definitely happening. There will probably be much rejoicing from those that have seen more than their fair share of accidents there. Can you blame them?
